This Saturday the Paynesville Football and Netball Club will host an Indigenous Round against Wy Yung Football and Netball Club.
In Wy Yung’s D Grade netball side, under 17s players Claire and Erika Brown will step up to play with their Aunties, Alana Solomon, Nikita Hayes and Janaya Saunders.
Coming in for a game will also be Chrissy Hayes-Tregonning and Sarah Brown, who are the mothers of the existing Wy Yung players, to form a team of seven and play a quarter for this special round celebrating the contribution of the Indigenous community to our local sports comps.
This netball match will see three generations of Indigenous women playing together on the one side, from grandmother to mothers to grandchildren.
“To be able to play with my daughters and grandchildren means the world to me,” Chrissy says. “To see three generations of Indigenous peoples out there playing is something that you will never see and its deadly to play with my mob”.
The match will be held at Paynesville Football and Netball Club, with tip off at 11am. All mob are encouraged to get along and watch.
Here at GEGAC we wish these girls good luck, and we will be cheering them on.
